Equality El Dorado Finds a Home

Equality El Dorado: A New Chapter for Inclusion and Community

Creating a Safe, Inclusive Space for El Dorado’s LGBTQIA+ Community

What began in 2019 as a simple Facebook page has grown into a grassroots movement for change in El Dorado. Born from a desire to foster a more inclusive, welcoming environment, Equality El Dorado has officially taken root as a community organization with a clear mission and a growing presence.

In 2025, the initiative took a significant step forward, formally becoming Equality El Dorado and establishing a dedicated team of nine board members. There is a total team of ten passionate individuals (including the director) who are all residents of El Dorado—leading the effort to turn a vision of inclusion into reality:

  • Cortnie Killen, President
  • Kera Boyce, Vice President
  • John Jones, Secretary
  • Brianne Dennis, Treasurer
  • Adrienne Towner, Board Member
  • Trisha Ann Klaus, Board Member
  • Rosie Carter, Board Member
  • Melodee Rutliff, Board Member
  • Hali Stevenson, Board Member

Thanks to the generosity of Patrick and Katie Todd, who offered a discounted rental space in their building, Equality El Dorado now has a physical home. The organization has filed for nonprofit status and is currently awaiting official approval. In the meantime, operations are fully supported by community donations, including all furnishings and supplies—testament to the strong local support behind the mission.

The group will celebrate its next major milestone with a Grand Opening on June 5 from 3–7 PM. This come-and-go event invites everyone to visit the new space, meet the board, and learn more about the work being done to uplift the LGBTQIA+ community in El Dorado. (114 N Main St, El Dorado, KS)
